In China, steamed or boiled pear with rock sugar is the most popular dessert in the cold seasons. It is believed that the combination of these two ingredients has certain medicinal benefits. According to traditional Chinese medicine, this dessert can reduce excessive phlegm to effectively ease coughs caused by the common cold.

Ingredients:
  • 0.5 oz. Lotus Seed
  • 0.5 oz. Semen Coicis (coix seed)
  • 0.5 oz. Edible dried Lily bulb
  • 2 cup Water
  • 2 oz. Sweet Rice
  • 7 oz. Rock sugar
  • For garnish
  • 5 count Cherries
  • 1 tsp. Pine nuts
  • 1 tsp. Mint leaves
  • 2 count Decorative tiny umbrellas

Soak the lotus seed, semen coicis, edible dried lily bulb in water at room temperature overnight.

Soak the sweet rice in ⅓ cup / 80ml water for 30 minutes.

In a medium pot, add ¼ cup / 60ml water, 7oz / 200g rock sugar, and cook until sugar dissolved completely.

Peel the pears. Cut off the top part of the pears (about 1/5 to 1/4 of the total height). Use a teaspoon to remove the cores. Soak them in water for use later.

Combine the soaked sweet rice, lotus seed, semen coicis, lily bulb, and sugar mixture in a bowl.

Stuff the pear with the rice mixture. Steam on medium heat for about 60 minutes.

Plate the steamed pears, garnish with cherries, pine nuts, and drizzle the sugar juice over the pears. Top with mint leaves and serve.
