Chinese style Steamed fish with homemade rice powder, known as Fen Zheng Yu, is full of aroma and flavors. The flavors of the lotus leaf infuse the fish and rice powder, and there’s plenty of umami goodness.

Ingredients:
  • 10.5 oz. Rice
  • 4 piece Bay Leaves
  • 10.5 oz. Fish fillets
  • 13 piece Lotus leaves
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Five-spice powder
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Anise
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Salt
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Cooking wine
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Sweet bean sauce
  • 1 count [Marinate] Egg
  • 1 tsp. [Marinate] Sugar

In a large bowl, add Fish fillets and marinate ingredients, mix well. Marinate for about 1 hour.

Add the uncooked rice and stir well to toast slightly. Add some bay leaves and anise for better aroma. You will see that rice changes its color after few moments, and that is the right time for the next move.

Take all the rice and put it on the surface where you can crush it into powder. You can use a rolling pin to get the powder. Here, you need some force to get the perfect powder.

A little bit of hard work is needed. Make sure that you roll it until the rice is completely crushed.

Cover the fillets with rice powder. Each fillet is important.

Brush the leaves with oil and leave it for few moments. Then, put the fillets on the lotus leaves and put everything in a pan.
