Beef jerky tastes so much better if you make your own. It’s much healthier as there is no added sugar, also you can avoid artificial flavoring and control exactly what goes into it, which makes a perfect side dish with packed flavor.

Ingredients:
  • 2 lb. Beef
  • 0.5 oz. Ginger
  • 4 stalks Green Onion
  • 5 g Dried Red Chili Pepper
  • 2 sticks Cinnamon
  • 3 pcs Star anise
  • 1 tbsp. Shaoxing Wine
  • 2 tbsp. Rock Sugar
  • 0.25 cup Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp. Five-Spice powder
  • 4 cup Water
  • 0.5 tsp. Salt, to taste
  • 2 tbsp. Honey, to taste
  • 1 tsp. White Sesame

Cut the beef to about 4 inches (8 cm) in length and 1 inch (3 cm) in width.

Deep fry the Beef for about 10 minutes. Cooking oil must be heated to about 350~400℉ / 150-200℃ before frying.

Take it out and rest on a strainer.

Put cuts of green onion, sliced up ginger roots, and then dry hot pepper into a wok and cook until flavor comes out. Next put cinnamon sticks, star anise, beef, rock sugar, soy sauce, and five-spice powder.

Then add water and salt into the wok. Cook over low heat for one and a half hours until water is mostly gone.

Take the beef out and put it into a baking plate. Add a little bit of water with the honey in a small bowl. Brush the honey mixture onto the beef.

Heat the oven to 300~350℉ / 120-150℃ and bake for about 15-20 minutes.

Sprinkle some white sesame seeds on the beef jerky.
